Meeker County, Minnesota

Meeker County, Minnesota, is located approximately one hour west of Minneapolis, with a population is approximately 23,250, covering 610 square miles.

It was established by the legislature on February 23, 1856 and was named in honor of Bradley B. Meeker (18-13-1873) of Minneapolis. Meeker as an associate justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court from 1849 to 1853.

Government offices are housed in the County Courthouse, the Family Services Center, and the Law Enforcement Center in the county seat of Litchfield.

Meeker County boasts a wonderful combination of rolling farmland and over 100 swimming and fishing lakes. The county is home to some of the state's largest dairy and poultry operations as well. The residential population is steadily growing with many new development and housing projects in the works.

Several excellent health care facilities, including the Meeker County Memorial Hospital, located in Litchfield, are throughout the county.  Area lakes, combined with many interesting historical sites and fun-filled small town festivals throughout the year, provide numerous recreational opportunities.
